ALMERE - 12 residential units with P.A.K.s system

One of our ongoing projects is located in ALMERE, Netherlands. In this project, we are building 4 blocks of residential units, each containing 3 houses, giving a total of 12. These will be "Tiny Houses" as the Dutch call them, suitable for younger generation as a first home.

Each one of these will provide 12 “tiny-house”, which is a Dutch slang for starter house for young people. The living space will be enough space for a family occasion with your relatives and friends. Each unit is well equipped with modern appliances, in the kitchen, in the bathroom, everywhere. The most important of all of them is the P.A.K.s.

P.A.K.s means Passive-Active Climate System, which is an innovative solution for keeping the ideal temperature, regardless the season. Let's look in detail on this.

Indoor temperature, noise, air quality and light quality are important for comfortable living. In fact, they are all equally important. If one is missing, the home will be perceived as unpleasant. So, it is always a matter of finding the right balance between these factors.

Why is it Passive?

Architectural solutions are including an improved insulation of the outer shell, three-layer glass system. This will lower the transmission losses of the property and the ventilation will ensure that sufficient fresh and clean air will be available at home.

Why is it Active?

These are installation engineering solutions to compensate for the remaining energy loss or to bring the house to a desired temperature. This is possible with a WTW unit in which the clean air outside is heated with the full outgoing air, and an air heater: this involves heating the air from the WTW unit to the desired value. (e.g. 20 °C).
